Eclairs and Memories

You may look at this eclair and think, "Yeah, so what?" But you don't know just how much these delicious eclairs mean to me. Many of you may have certain smells that bring on memories; I do but this eclair and it's scrumptious taste brings on a plethora of memories.

Today I was running errands and went to Dick's Market to buy a few groceries. I walked past the pastry counter and the eclair was just calling my name. I cannot recall the last time I had one of these. Of course I bought one.

When I got out to my car, I told myself not yet. I had to wait until I was in the "old" neighborhood to eat this. It wouldn't do any justice to eat it anywhere else. I pulled into the neighborhood and parked my car by the "green box". Pulled the eclair out of the bag, slowly worked it into my mouth, and as I worked my way around the pink flower I closed my eyes. My mind went back 15 years ago...

Walking to Dick's Market with friends to get treats for our Friday night movies. Buying ECLAIRS and penny candy!
Ward wedding receptions had the ECLAIRS for refreshments. My friends and I would eat not just one but twenty!
Grandpa coming home with ECLAIRS because he knew how much I love them.

There is one last thing I must say...I have had many eclairs in my life and there is no comparison to Dick's Market.

Sig! The green box! I love it. Oh, the memories. I must say, when I was in Centerville over Christmas, I stared at the yummy pastry counter at Dick's. I used to get the chocolate frosted donuts with chocolate filling in the middle. Remember those? I can't believe I would actually eat two in one sitting! On top of a bag full of penny candy! Which I did buy while there. I got 50 mini tootsie rolls and ate all but five. Ashley and I did buy potato wedges with fry sauce at Dick's. We'll all have to make a trip there next time we're together. :) Love ya!

Who knew that a green electrical box could bring so much joy to some teenage girls. Ok, I guess Dick's bakery brought the joy and the green box was the random place we chose to hang out sometimes. I am with you in that I have searched high and low and no one can beat the greasy goodness that comes from Dick's bakery and deli. I drool just thinking of it! I'm with Ang-we have to go together next time. Or maybe in the summer, we can get on some old bikes, ride down to the ol' rainbow snow shack and watch as you knock off the drained, coned-shaped top so you can get to the juicy inards underneath :) Good times!

awwww...the green box! Did we have the same one -- mine was by the Angers? In the old neighborhood. Oh my heavens, I think I walked back and forth to Dicks and Rainbow snow more times than I've walked to any other place! Remember the HUGE sugar cookies shaped like Elmo or a dog bone? I love those too.
