I was hesitant to go.
I haven't been on my bike since May. Redic.
We woke up early, drove to Mountain Green.
It was freezing. 56 degrees to be exact.
We clipped in. And off we went.
Rode through Morgan.
Climbed hills.
We got close to the Dam at East Canyon.
I stopped. I cried.
It was hard.
I made us turn around.
Different route back.
Through Stoddard and Porterville.
My attitude changed once I said a prayer.
I told myself that if hundreds of women can cross the plains into
the Salt Lake Valley, I can get through this ride.
My heart softened.
As the sun gleamed across the fields, I knew
in that moment that Heavenly Father loves me.
I cried tears...happy tears.
Then I remember my Bishop standing on the banks of
the Sweetwater River asking...
"Do you have the Courage to Continue?"
I like to think that I do.Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-18347297548746471872010-05-18T19:51:00.001-06:002010-05-18T19:52:28.553-06:00New Paint!

Here is my new and improved Living Room. All of us sisters were invited to attend this special evening to be enlightened by the former Temple President and Matron, Brother and Sister Walker. The message they had to share was full of Hope, Joy and Peace. The Spirit was incredibly strong and it was burning in my heart that evening. I walked away from that meeting with a skip in my step!

I had asked our Relief Society to meet at the Salt Lake Temple one Sunday after church to have our picture taken for this special fireside. I had my dear mother take our picture and I put the vintage effect on it. I had it matted and framed. It turned out beautiful. Our Bishop will be the lucky recipient this Sunday as we present it to him.

I love that I was able to do this. I was able to reflect on some personal things and gain a fonder appreciation for the Sisters in my ward, the Temple and the Spirit of the Savior.

Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-34600151589381252772010-02-18T00:00:00.003-07:002010-02-18T00:24:40.409-07:00I am almost famous...I am a guest blogger today over at this darling website that an old high school friend does! I guess you can say I made a few and am even a month late on posting about my new goals or should I say goal...I don't want to overwhelm myself! Basically, all I can remember is one that I made, which is to read one article of my choice of topic once a week from the church website. (that was a mouthful) Anyhow, I have decided that I should share with you a quote from the article each week.

"We never need mistake local cloud cover for general darkness. The Atoning Light of the World saw to that. It was for our sake that perfectly remarkable Jesus was perfectly consecrated. Jesus let His own will be totally 'swallowed up in the will of the Father'. If you and I would come unto Jesus, we must likewise yield to God, holding nothing back. Then other soaring promises await!"

~Elder Neal A. Maxwell
November 1991 Ensign

I love this quote! I love that Elder Maxwell used the word "perfectly" twice in one sentence! This quote brings back a sweet memory that I had during the Olympics of 2002...I will share with anyone that asks!

On another note, I need to give a sorely needed update on my life!

*I HEART School!
*I double HEART my new Camera!
*I cut bangs and they are pretty cute.
*My fabulous singles ward...wait, my fabulous "Pre-Marriage" ward has issued a call for us to do our Genealogy. The next 5 months are going to be geared towards finding our ancestors, recording their history, recording OUR history, and doing Temple work for our ancestors. In June, we will be trekking to Martins Cove to pay homage to the pioneers. So exciting! I am truly looking forward to this experience. I know that I need to give my all to help make this a successful spiritual experience!

I even encourage all of you to do your Genealogy...it's super easy! Here you will find all the tools you need to get started. I will be sharing with you some of my stories and I would LOVE to hear some of yours.

Start by asking yourself...
Where do I come from?
Then secondly ask yourself...
Am I Keeping My Story?

Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-2504827195826839482009-12-10T22:28:00.005-07:002009-12-10T23:01:53.646-07:00Everyone has a Story to Share...A few months ago, I met this darling girl through a friend in my ward and after she shared her conversion story and Testimony of the Gospel, I have pondered my own. I literally have sat and thought back as far as I was eight years old trying to remember that pivotal moment. I can recall the interview I had with my Bishop just before I was baptized...nope, it wasn't then. Then I fast-forwarded to when I turned twelve and was now a glorified Beehive. The thoughts of when I first did Baptisms in the Salt Lake Temple came flooding back...nope, wasn't then. Was it when I was in High School and was in Seminary...nope, it wasn't then. Don't get me wrong, I still had warm fuzzies after all those experiences.
After failing at trying to remember that exact moment that I knew it was all true, it dawned on me that I have had many moments in my life that are my conversion story. While they are not huge and monumental they are still life changing...at least for me they are. I took for granted having been blessed with being raised in the Gospel and thinking to myself all these years, "I wish I had an amazing story to share". As all the memories have come back, I realize that I do have an amazing story to share and I have recorded them in my journal. Someday my children will read of my many conversion stories.

My Testimony is strong and it is real.
I am eternally grateful for all those small and quiet moments that made my heart convert.
I know without a doubt that He lives.
I know that He hears my prayers, shares with me my joy and my sorrows.
I am grateful to know of the truths and to know that I am a Daughter of God.

May you reflect on your own conversion story and revel in the Spirit that it brings!

Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-39789902316149525572009-11-03T22:05:00.002-07:002009-11-03T22:09:52.489-07:00Spooky SpookyFor those of you have been following my blog the last few months...you know of the "Return to Virtue" theme...hence the inspiration for my Halloween costume this year. The 4 months prior, I was never this scared...but in that small moment,

I was terrified.

I was terrified that the procedure wouldn't be successful or that I may never wake up. Which was so silly because in no way was it a life threatening situation.

Rewind...

It's summer.

July to be exact.

I had a fever.

Who gets fevers in the summer?

Well this fever, named Seaver, decided to take hold of the little hearing that I had. I woke up one morning and noticed that my hearing was a little off. After many tweaks of the hearing aid in hopes of figuring out the problem...it wasn't working. Later a hearing test made it known that I could hear no sound.

Pure. Devastation.

As I woke from my deep slumber of anesthesia, relief was felt. The procedure was successful and I was sent home to recover. But my journey doesn't end here.

Today, I am still living this trial. Many tears have been shed but much laughter has escaped my lips. Receiving a Cochlear Implant is a miraculous blessing. Over time I have come to learn so much about me, who my true friends are, and more about the Savior's love.

A friend of mine recently asked me if I feel like I don't date much because of my disability. I answered him..."No, when I was younger I thought so but many have taught me that my disability is my 'ability'."

I have the ability...

to share my testimony that even though trials are hard and may never end, we are stronger sons and daughters of God for enduring.

I have the ability...

to show compassion towards others and their situations because I "understand". I understand the hurt, the anger and the confusion. I only hope that they learn that the Savior's compassion is what will guide them.

And last,

I have the ability...

to show that life is not any different from a disabled person and a normal person. It's all about your attitude at the way you look at life. You can choose to complain that you can't hear your friends while swimming or you can jump off that diving board and sink the best cannonball ever!

Thank you...Seaver, the Fever.Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-58461302241496356052009-10-12T23:09:00.003-06:002009-10-12T23:17:57.503-06:00Epic...Epic.

Truly Epic.

Let me be the first to describe the Lord's love as Epic, if it hasn't been done.

It is truly a miracle that He knows me and knows who to send in His place.

Thank you...S. & K. & C.Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-21458330808510782202009-09-17T01:09:00.003-06:002009-09-17T01:15:31.955-06:00Savoring...I was browsing blogs tonight and came upon a sweet post by a friend's mother. I love that she shared these questions...

Do you let yourself enjoy a compliment?
Have you lingered over a delicious meal lately?
Can you revel in the love you feel for certain people?
Do you let yourself laugh out loud when you're happy?
Is it okay to feel pride in accomplishment?
Do you take pictures to remember great times?
Do you have friends who really know how to enjoy themselves?

Are you a "savorer"? I like to think that I am!Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-45664395608510291712009-08-31T17:45:00.004-06:002009-08-31T18:16:08.060-06:00Return to Virtue...Back in May, my Bishopric set a challenge to my singles ward to Return to Virtue. They were inspired by the new Young Women's value of Virtue. It was broken down into 3 parts:

* The BOMB: Book of Mormon Blitz

* U32.gov

* "Come to the Temple with me..."

We were challenged to read the Book of Mormon in three months. They had divided the chapters into a daily schedule for us to follow. We were to begin on June 1st and finish on August 28th. I am proud to say that I finished on the completion date...it wasn't easy.
U32.gov was our theme: University 32nd ward.guardians of virtue. We were encouraged to remain chaste and virtuous. We each received the Young Women pamphlet on virtue. We are to fill out the goals, complete it, and have it signed by a member of the bishopric.
Our bishop wrote to Sister Elaine Dalton informing her what our ward had been challenged to do. He explained to her the inspiration and the blessings that we would reap. He also told her of his invitation for us to come with him to the Temple on August 29th. Sister Dalton wrote back words of encouragement, admiration, and asked if she may join us in the Temple.
A few weeks ago, our ward had the opportunity to have our summer activity in Jackson Hole. Signs reading U32.gov were posted all over the campsite. Our last night was spent together at a fireside presented by our bishopric. We were told that we were uniting together as a ward in righteousness. Musical numbers told us to hold onto the promise. And we were reminded that virtue is what unlocks the doors to the Temple.
Last Saturday was our Temple day. It went from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening. I cannot express the amazing feeling of the Spirit that was present. I was able to participate in an endowment session, iniatories, and sealings. I had a few sweet and sacred experiences throughout the day. I loved walking the halls of the Temple and seeing faces that I knew. I loved that I was able to be in the sealing room with some dear friends and my bishop. I loved the feeling of great unity between ward members. I loved that hugs were given freely...
In our white clothing, we all met in a chapel and were taught words of wisdom. We were fortunate to hear from Sister Dalton. She expressed her love for us and applauded us for our desire to be worthy to attend the Temple that day. She reminded us to return to virtue. She also took a moment to memorize our faces so that when we all reside in heaven, she will remember us.
The Temple Presidency spoke to us as well. The Temple matron was darling and so sweet. She explained how C.T.R. doesn't only stand for choose the right but for current temple recommend. I loved listening to her and her sweet stories. The Temple president reminded us of the covenants we have made and reminded us just how mindful the Lord is of us. He was so impressed with us and our decision to make Temple day such a success.
What an amazing experience! It is one that I shall never forget. Later at the bishop's home for dinner, I made the comment to some friends...

"Today was the best day of this year!"

Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-13058911527018395502009-08-27T13:08:00.004-06:002009-08-27T20:42:57.938-06:00Tender Mercies...Lately, I have been thinking about tender mercies. Many thoughts of Elder Bednar's talk have crossed my mind...here is one:

"...The Lord’s tender mercies are the very personal and individualized blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts which we receive from and because of and through the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly, the Lord suits “his mercies according to the conditions of the children of men” (D&C 46:15)."

It is truly a miracle that the Lord watches over us and through another mortal He sends us His love. I strongly believe that there is no such thing as coincidences. In fact, I am trying to erase that word from my vocabulary.

In the past few weeks, I have had many experiences that have warmed my heart. I won't go into super detail about them but it's been a tremendous blessing. I have made new friends that are true sweethearts, I have an amazing ward that is everything and more, I have a guy-friend that genuinely cares and is so complimentary, I have a brother who is my best-friend and the list goes on.

After I have pondered about all these experiences that the Lord has blessed me with; I have decided to carry around with me a small journal. In the journal, I have been recording the sweet and simple mercies that are evident. After doing so for a few days, it's apparent that the Lord is aware of me and my needs. My prayers have gotten stronger because I have so much to be thankful for. Writing down all that has taken place is a daily reminder to express my gratitude to the Lord.

My goal is to be that person that you write about in your journal. I want to live close to the Spirit that I am constantly aware of who needs my love...Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-29465360525334695792009-08-17T16:50:00.005-06:002009-08-17T17:28:43.136-06:00A series of outdoorchic.com events...Let me back waaaaaaaaay up and tell you a little story before I continue my post. Years ago, like years ago, when it was time for me to make an email account, I had no idea what it should be. So, I chose outdoorchic@something or another. Little did I know that it would haunt me for years to come. My family has given me grief ever since...for those of you who don't already know, I am no outdoorchic! I like civilization and all that it has to offer.

For my birthday, my wonderfully, stellar step-dad gave me a road bike. It is a beaut! She is the most darlingest champagne, red, and white Specialized Roubaix. I love her!!! I love to go riding. Who knew!? But don't think I am a crazy fool to do something dumb like the LOTOJA. I like my flat roads with a little climb.

Anyways, a few weeks ago Bob and I went riding. The night was gorgeous, the weather was cool, the company was great until I did my first climb. I was huffin' and puffin'. I even told Bob that I was gonna hurt him...it kicked my trash but I got up the hill! Bob was waiting for me at the top and I was slowing down to stop. I clipped out of my pedals and thought I had with my right foot...NOOOOO! The next thing I know, I am lying in a bunch of gravel and broken glass on HWY 89. I quickly clipped out and stood up. I was laughing so hard! As bloody and nasty it was, I didn't care. I was ready to fly down 89...let me tell ya folks, doing 32 mph down a hill is priceless!

Here is my second outdoorchic event. This last weekend, my singles ward went to Jackson Hole for the weekend. A blast and more to come on that. I didn't sign up to do the river rafting as I hate being without my hearing aid for that long and I didn't want to pay for it. For those who chose not to raft, we had a hike around Jenny Lake up to the Hidden Falls. There were about 2o of us who hiked including our cowboy Bishop!

The hike is approximately 6 miles round trip. It is not a breezy hike that you can enjoy the scenery and what not. You are constantly looking at your feet or you will end up on your face amongst rocks. I am happy to report that I was one of the 5 that were the first ones to the falls. ME? I should have been dead last. But then I was dead last coming back in!

It was fun to see the gorgeous views from Inspiration Point and see the stellar falls! I can truly say that I went "beyond my skill level" (another story for another time)...

In closing, I would like to thank my family for all the years of teasing...you can put it in your juice box and suck it!Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-58772248079321705552009-07-31T00:11:00.004-06:002009-07-31T00:29:32.245-06:00Greetings from Pineview...
Go Larsy!

Highlights of the quick morning run:

*I locked the keys in the Truck before we even left our driveway,
thank goodness Bob left a spare in his sock drawer.
*Mom had her "Peg Water"! Thankfully none of us got cut in the middle of a ski just for her!
*Josh is quite an athlete on the Slalom and entertaining at the same time!
*I chose not to ski because the air was sooooo cold and I had a slight hammy injury but was convinced to. Oh and I had to change into my suit in the boat out in the middle of the lake!
It was worth it!
*Lars is getting better and better every year with his skiing skills. I am so proud of him! Someday he may even go beyond his "skill level"...
*We passed a certain stretch of beach that reminded me of the times we would come up to Pineview with my Grandma Lorraine. She always had a crisp sheet for us to sit on, yummy snacks and the coolest cooler ever. I love her and miss her!
*It was a beautiful morning with great people!

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Hence the latest story...

A few weeks ago at work, another stylist had a male client in her chair. I was cleaning and talking to them at the same time. Here is the conversation:

Male, early 50's, balding so we will call him, "Mr. Bald".

Mr. Bald: Where are you from?

Me: You talking to me?

Mr. Bald: Yeah. Where are you from? You have the coolest accent ever.

Me: I was born and raised in Utah.

Mr. Bald: What?! How is that? Your accent...

Me: I am hearing impaired and so, that is why I have a cool accent.

Mr. Bald: Oh my gosh, you need to play it like you really are from somewhere. I honestly thought you were from either Northern Scotland or Darwin, Australia.

Me: Ha ha ha ha!

No lie...45 minutes later, I have a client in my chair. Here is our conversation...

Male, mid-twenties, Hispanic, so let's call him, Jose!

Jose: Where are you from? You have the coolest accent.

Me: (trying not to laugh) Northern Scotland.

Jose: I knew it!!!

Me: Ha ha ha ha. No, I was born and raised here.

Jose: What?! I really thought you were from Scotland!

Me: Yes, really. I am hearing impaired and that is my deaf accent!

So, apparently I have the "coolest accent"! I am amazed at how many men have asked me over the years and truthfully, the big kick is seeing their eyes get really big when told that I am hearing impaired. Never fails.Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412099493656592999.post-78797700708951174852009-07-12T18:06:00.003-06:002009-07-12T18:14:48.974-06:00Another year older...Let the pics tell the story...

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357730294518707490" style="DISPLAY: block; Who can blame me? I have been busy! But just for you Erin, I am updating! Here is what I have been up to in a nutshell:

*Biking...I love it! I have been riding the Legacy Trail and it's a great ride. Maybe soon, when I work up to doing 100 miles a week; I just may sign up for a race.

*This is kicking my trash! I cannot walk up a flight of stairs, it hurts to lower my self on a seat, and it kills to laugh my abdominal muscles.

*I am planning my Birthday party for next month. Yes, I am having one and I am decorating with this...

*I have been attending Institute, all of my ward activities, and of course, my Sunday meetings. This ward is truly amazing!

*I have been challenged by my Bishopric to do the B.O.M.B.! Book of Mormon Blitz...we started June 1st and will finish August 28th.

*Upon hearing that many girls in my ward have no clue how to flirt...I have arranged for this woman to come instruct and motivate our Relief Society. Just consider me part of the Bishopric!

*I am reading THE LIKENESS...Fab!

*Oh...how could I forget, I finally got the closure with a particular fellow. Thank goodness! B lives in Utah County and is attending school at UVU. B was an hour late picking me up because he did not realize just how far away C-Town is until he put my address in his GPS. I was able to paint my nails while waiting, sweet!

B arrives...
Me and B get into his car.
B asks me where I would like to go for dinner.
Me asks B what he is in the mood for.
B says he wants to go to a Steakhouse.
Me and B go to Texas Roadhouse.
B asks me what I am having.
Me says, "Steak!"
B says, "I hate steak!"
Me thinks...what the heck?!?!?

B ask me what I enjoy doing.
Me says stuff like boating, crafting and etc.
B says negative stuff about each thing that I like.

Me looks at the score of the Jazz game periodically.
B asks if I like basketball.
Me nods me head.
B goes on a tangent about how lame the sport of basketball is.
B rips apart the Jazz.
B is making me mad.

B finds out that I once upon time went to Ricks/BYU-ID.
B says, "I can't believe you went there!"
"All LDS schools are communist."
"I just can't believe you went there."
Me, dumbfounded and don't know what to say.

Me looks around the restaurant,
Me eats me steak.
Me smiles at the cute boy at the next table.

Me asks, "B, are you a reader?"
B, "I hate reading!"
"Although, I got a manual on the very first Dr. Mario!"
"I am now on level 18 at the very highest speed."
"Blah blah blah blah........................"

Me looks at the Jazz score, so sad.
Me eats the last roll.

B pays for the check.
Me and B get in his car.
B drives while asking,
"Is there mini golf?"
Me..."Nope."
B, "A movie theatre?"
Me..."Nope."
B driving past bowling alley,
"Is there bowling?"
Me..."Nope."
B, "Want to watch a movie at your place?"
Me..."Nope."
B, "Should I just take you home?"
Me, "Yep."

B drives me home.
B trash talks Utah.
B hates living in Utah.
B can't wait to get married and leave Utah.

Me, at the door, "Thanks for dinner."
B, "It was so great to meet you and blah blah."

Me inching my way to the door.
B leans for a hug.
Me inches towards the door.
B leans further for a hug.
Me half-hugs B!

The end...

Okay, honestly, I got a good steak out of it! AND, I really, really know the kind of man that I want to marry. I am glad for this experience and as much as it was awful...I am more confident in knowing that HE is right around the corner. I have to weed through the thorny, nerdy ones to get there!Siggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10363880220412564979noreply@blogger.com19
